On the dreary day after halloween 2006 in Duluth, hung over as hell, I ventured out to take some pictures.
Here's the harbor at the west end of Lake Superior. That's Superior, Wisconsin across the bay. Now I've seen every great lake except Lake Huron.
...
Quaint looking place, from up here. The strip of land is still Duluth, Minnesota. There is a small airport at the end of it.
Well...there really is a castle on the hill, just like that guy said in the bar!
...
It kept threatening to sprinkle, but all in all, there were only a few snow flurries.
There was a locked gate to get into the tower. In fact, the park the tower was in was roadblocked, so I had to ditch the car and bike in. Here is as close as I could get to going up into the tower...
Not quite winter YET...
...
Then I descended to lake level to snap some more shots. This is the pathway to the beach that's on the tiny spit of land that reaches toward Wisconsin.
Probably a nice place for a swim...in the summer!
...
...
A bridge within a bridge...that farther blue bridge visible underneath the closer one is called the BONG MEMORIAL BRIDGE. I think they should post a sign half way across that says: DID YOU REMEMBER YOUR BONG???
Here's another bridge that you have to cross to get onto the spit. It's a drawbridge with a midsection which moves up and down like an elevator instead of hinging upward from the sides. I didn't get to see it in action.
...
...
Elevator platform or not, the bridge is nice to look at, too! I think next time I come to this town, I'll pick a warmer time of year.
