A sign outside claimed the place was a "restaurant/cocktail lounge". Was it even open? At the moment, it looked almost abandoned. I tried the door, and lo and behold, it opened!
Hidden inside was a beautiful vintage bowling alley! Now I don't bowl, but I do appreciate some quality 70s-era bowling-themed graphix sneaked in underneath the 50s or even 40s (or before!) painted tile.
The "restaurant" inside turned out to be nothing more than a grill. I had a fish sandwich which was about what you'd expect from a bowling alley grill. BUT-- They have the most SCRUMPTIOUS coconut creme pie! There was even a layer of merengue involved, over top of the coconut creme and with coconut shavings sprinkled on top. The lady there said her mom loves to bake and bakes all the pies and cookies available.
Over the next 6 days, I kept thinking about the Rose Bowl and how I hadn't taken any pictures there. Also I wanted to eat MORE PIE! I resolved to stop there again on the way back.
So this morning I stopped through and not only did I take pictures but I actually met the lady who bakes the pies! All she had today was cookies though. They were also excellent. I stopped in just after opening and that's why in these pictures, no one is bowling.
